2019 is the year to be excited about!

We’ve built Kandio because we’re obsessed with making visions of the future. As a good friend once told me, “Be a man from the future.” As a team of 6-strong, we’re shooting for our vision this 2019 and we can’t help but take a look at other paths as well. If you have some background in physics, you’d know that going at a speed of light will widen your visual peripheries. And that’s what Kandio is doing this 2019, going full light speed ahead.

Here are the other trends that we see are going to happen in the world of recruiting for next year.

Employer branding

Gone are the days when brands are those fancy logos that you see in tv commercials or hear on the radio. Branding, in its marketing essence, is an experience that is unique. They say that a brand is successful when an experience is associated with its name. A good example is associating “searching” with Google. So, given that a huge chunk of a person’s lifetime is allocated to their careers, it really does make sense for employers to create a brand for themselves. Talent is everywhere and they only go to the best. Did you ever want to work with a company that brands itself as playful by having gaming rooms? Or maybe candidates still prefer employers who are really serious in their workforce’s career development and would rather look for those who offer a paid MBA program? There are different ways of implementing a successful employer branding strategy. Regardless of how an employer brand is created, it’s up to the candidate to decide the employer brand he wants to associate himself to. Likewise, it’s the employer’s brand that should attract the talent they want to have.

The talent pool

There’s no way to deny it, but the global workforce is changing. There’s the rise of AI. There are also many ways to acquire new skills even outside the realms of formal education. Back in the day, you’d need a formal education to get a diploma and find a job. But nowadays, for as long as you have the skill required and you can do it expertly, that’s good enough for you to land a job. Social media managers? Digital marketers? SEO specialists? And even developers, it’s no longer a question of “Have you learned how to do it?” but more of a simple “Can you do it?” Do you want to hire a developer? Simply give them a test to find out if they have the skills for the job.

Digitization of the workplace

Wave after wave, technology aims to augment ourselves as workers. Obviously, everyone wants to make things better, right? We no longer live in tiny holes with the sun rays barely reaching our toes. The world is our playground and the workplace has become our playground as well. Nowadays, if you were looking for a developer, you’d have the whole world as your talent pool because the ease of access is as easy as connecting to the internet. As a growing trend, digital nomads are no longer in the dark. They’re not even in the light as well. They’re exactly where they want to be which is anywhere they want to be. So, if you think about it, how do you hire a digital nomad if they’re everywhere? First, you need to find them and no, we’re not talking about flying to random places to look for them. All you have to do is make use of the tools that the internet has to offer. And lastly, you should also know how to hire them remotely.

The Skills Gap

We think that this problem is underrated and we completely understand why. It’s simply because this problem is common to a lot of businesses. In case you were wondering, the skills gap is simply that the gap between what skills employers need and the available skills the workforce has. The way we see it, there’s a lot going on in that gap and what we observe is that the workforce is changing in a way that it has gained access to more and more information. You can even become a full stack developer without a tech degree. But the ease of access has its own consequences. Now that it’s easy to learn things, you can’t help but seel candidates for employment claiming that they’re the best in their fields! And there’s a simple fix for that, test them, and that’s probably going to take you only a few minutes of your time.

Clincher

Trends come and go and they’re never absolute. At most, it gives us an idea of where we’re headed based on past and current events. Ultimately, as cliché goes, the future lies in our actions.

What do you think of our trends?
